Privacy policy · Guide Canada
Last updated: October 21, 2026
In short: nothing you enter ever leaves your phone. There is no account, no usage analytics, and your information is never sold or shared. The only thing that leaves the phone is the update request described below under “Content updates”: a technical identifier drawn at random, along with the IP address that any Internet connection reveals.
Who we are
Guide Canada is an app for newcomers to Canada, published by Gishleine Oukouomi D., in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; its transfer to Michoozon Inc. is planned. Questions: contact@michoozon.com.
Gishleine Oukouomi D. is responsible for the protection of personal information; after the transfer, it will be the President of Michoozon Inc. For a request or a complaint: contact@michoozon.com, with “Privacy” in the subject line.
What stays on your phone
- Your language, your province or territory, your situation (status, arrival date, children, foreign driver’s licence) and the steps you check off, with your notes. This information is only used to tailor the checklist to your situation.
- “My file”: the information you choose to enter (for example your Social Insurance Number, passport number, health card, address). It is encrypted by the phone’s secure storage (Keychain on iPhone, Keystore on Android) and can be protected with Face ID, fingerprint or the phone’s passcode.
- Reminders for document expiry dates and appointments are scheduled on the phone itself, with no server.
- “Add to calendar” opens your phone’s own event form, already filled in: you are the one who saves it to your calendar. The app does not read your calendar.
None of this information is sent to Michoozon or to anyone else. We cannot see it or recover it.
Content updates
At startup, when Internet is available, the app asks the Expo service (EAS Update, its technical provider) whether a content update exists, for example a corrected link. This request contains an identifier drawn at random when the app is installed, the version of the app and of its content, and the type of phone (iPhone or Android). Like any Internet connection, it also reveals the phone’s IP address. Expo is an American company: the request is processed in the United States, where authorities may, in some cases, access the data. Expo acts as a processor on our behalf, under its terms of service. This identifier is not linked to your name, to any account or to anything you have entered. It is only used to deliver updates, and is never used for advertising or to track you across apps.
If you write to us
The “Request my city” button opens a pre-written email in your own mail app. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. If you write to us, we only receive what you send (your email address and your message, which already states your province), and we only use it to reply to you and to know which cities to add. It is kept in our mailbox, hosted by Google, including in the United States, for no more than 24 months after our last exchange, then deleted.
Links to official websites
Links to government and organization websites open in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy rules.
Partners
The app may show offers from partners (for example a bank, a phone company, an insurer or an organization), chosen by the publisher. Each offer is clearly marked “Partner” and shows the advertiser’s name.
- These offers are delivered with the app’s content: showing them requires no connection.
- Nothing is sent to the advertiser: not your province, not your situation, nothing you have entered.
- No data is collected when an offer is shown or when you tap it: nothing is counted or recorded.
- When several offers appear in the same place, their order changes every day. It is calculated on your phone from the date alone, without knowing anything about you.
- An offer may open full screen when you tap it, with the advertiser’s logo, its benefits and its conditions. It never opens on its own, and the logo is stored in the app: nothing is downloaded to show it.
- Tapping an offer opens the advertiser’s website in your browser, at the planned address, with nothing added to it. Once opened, that website has its own privacy rules.
Erasing your data
In the app: More, then Erase my data. We offer no online backup. If your phone’s backup is turned on (iCloud or Google), it may still copy your settings, checklist and notes to your own account, and restore them if you reinstall the app. “My file” is not copied to another phone. To erase everything, use Erase my data before uninstalling.
Children
The app is not directed at children. What you enter about your children stays, like everything else, on your phone.
No government affiliation
Guide Canada is an independent app. It is not affiliated with the Government of Canada or any provincial or territorial government. Every piece of information links to its official source.
Your rights and recourse
We hold none of your information except the emails you send us, so most of your rights are exercised in the app (edit, or Erase my data). For an email you sent us, you can ask for a copy, a correction or its deletion; we answer free of charge, no later than 30 days after your request.
In Quebec, if we refuse a request for access or correction, or do not answer it within 30 days, you have 30 days to submit the disagreement to the Commission d’accès à l’information. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may contact:
- anywhere in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (PIPEDA);
- in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information;
- in Alberta, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta;
- in British Columbia, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
In the other provinces and in the territories, federal law applies, and the federal Commissioner receives complaints.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page, with its date.
